Loving Discipline

by Pastor Darin Anderson | God and the Rest of the Week

Christian parenting begins with the example we set. Parents must first model wholehearted love for God. They must also demonstrate a healthy marriage relationship. The second commitment to maintain is loving leadership – shepherding the hearts of our children so they can 1) see the glory of God and trust Him; 2) experience the love of God and enjoy Him and 3) know the Word of God so they obey Him.

The other two commitments of Biblical parenting involve teaching and training. With a commitment to unconditional love for our children, we must teach them to form their minds and train them to shape their wills. Parent-directed parenting is the clear Biblical pattern, through which parents ensure their children: 1) listen to their voices; 2) obey all the way, right away with a happy heart and 3) learn to make good choices on their own.
