1. Introducing... the King

Before we begin our journey through the sermon on the mount, let’s study Matthew’s four chapter introduction to the person and message of Jesus. He calls it “the gospel of the kingdom” (4:23): good news! John the Baptist and Jesus make two declarations: first that the kingdom of heaven had arrived and second that Jesus was the King of that kingdom. Then the two preachers called for two responses to this good news: 1) repent and 2) commit to Jesus as your King. How did God prepare you to take these two steps? When and how did you turn from your old life and make Jesus your king?
