Laura Story and her family

One of the most inspiring concerts I’ve ever been to featured Laura Story and her song, Blessings, from the album God of Every Story.

“What if your blessings come through raindrops, what if your healing comes through tears. What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know you’re near… What if trials of this life are your mercies in disguise.”

Laura wrote this song out of her experience with her husband, Martin, and his recovery from a brain tumor discovered just over a year into their marriage. All of their expectations for a “normal” marriage and family life went up in smoke through one diagnosis. That was 2006. The song “Blessings” was released (and won a Grammy) in 2011.

Read more of the details of this story, along with a helpful excerpt from Laura’s new book When God Doesn’t Fix Ithere. All married couples must surrender our expectations – Laura and Martin provide a great example of what that looks like, step by step, one day at a time.

Here is another excerpt from the book, dealing with when God doesn’t answer prayer the way we want Him to.

One more, to remind us that the place God has us right now is the best place, even if it doesn’t match our plans.

Remember, He is the God of EVERY STORY.

I shared along these lines last year and link to Steven Curtis Chapman’s equally inspiring and faith-filled song here.
