29. Be Sure

The last section of the Sermon on the Mount includes several very serious warnings. Looking back to the rest of the sermon and the chapters in Matthew leading up to it, we see dramatic warnings from John the Baptist and Jesus there as well. Jesus clearly states, “by their fruit you will know them” (Matthew 7:16). What kind of fruit do you see in your life? Are you growing to look more and more like Jesus? Matthew 7 shows us five clear signs to look for in your life if you truly know Him and belong to Him by faith. Come to be encouraged and to rejoice in the assurance of genuine faith. And let’s listen to these warnings with ears to hear so we can “work out [our] salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12).
