6. Blessed are the Merciful
December 7, 2025 - Matthew 5:1-10Blessed are the Merciful
The first three beatitudes establish the roots of faith in Jesus (humility, repentance and submission). The fourth beatitude shows us how to grow in Christ, by hungering and thirsting after righteousness. Now in the fifth beatitude we begin to see the fruit of faith. As those who have received such mercy from the Lord, such overflowing love, how can we not show the same kind of compassion and service to others? That is what mercy looks like: first a deep internal compassion and second practical action to meet the needs of others. To understand and apply the quality of mercy we will study the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10) and the sheep and the goats (Matt. 25). Consider the mercy and compassion God has shown to you and come Sunday to celebrate His great love!
