12. Anger
January 18, 2026 - Matthew 5:20-26Anger
Six times in Matthew 5 Jesus says, “You have heard it said, but I say to you,” to illustrate His rabbinic approach to righteous living. In short, He makes it clear that the main issue is our hearts (Luke 6:45). And what is in your heart will come out in your emotions, words and actions. This teaching on anger gives us an opportunity to reflect on three questions: 1) what are your emotions and words telling you about your heart? 2) would you rather be right or be reconciled? 3) the question of who should initiate reconciliation: are you more mature? Now is the day of salvation. Now is the time of God’s favor when people can still call on the name of Jesus to be forgiven and changed from the inside out.
