20. Pray and Forgive
April 19, 2026 - Matthew 6:9-15Pray and Forgive
As we pray “give us this day our daily bread,” we can often mis-apply it as “give me right now my every desire.” God does not promise to give us everything we want. Instead He promises to change our desires to match His (see how the Lord’s Prayer begins!). And it is very significant that Jesus teaches us to pray as a family. “Give us this day our daily bread.” The Lord’s prayer is a community-forming prayer in the very center of a community-forming sermon. As we pray for God’s will to be done, the very first way God invites us to apply His will is by asking together for our daily bread (and, no doubt, sharing what bread we have with one another). The invitation, in this central petition of the Lord’s prayer, is to give others what God has given to us. Gratitude for the grace and goodness of God is the fuel for the Christian life! Come this week to refill your gratitude tank!
