1. Jesus Changes Everything – January 5, 2020 – John 1:35-51

 (The sermon begins at 15:32)

John 1 shows us several people having encounters with Jesus. We see a question – “What are you seeking?” – followed by an invitation – “Come and you will see.” If you study the life and teachings of Jesus you will quickly find He was far more than a great teacher. In fact, Jesus Himself will bring you to a crossroads when you hear His command – “Come, follow me.” The passage closes with a promise – “You will see greater things than these!”

2. Stay with Jesus – January 12, 2020 – John 15:1-17

(Sermon begins at 13:05)

Why must we stay connected with Jesus? And how do we do it? John 15 shows us three reasons and three habits to “abide in” Jesus. WHY? 1) He is the source of life and power; 2) apart from him we are powerless; 3) so our lives will matter for eternity. HOW? 1) Dwell on Jesus’ Words; 2) Delight in Jesus’ love and 3) Do what Jesus commands.

3. A God-Centered Life – January 19, 2020 – John 5:15-29

Jesus was perfectly focused on His Father and His Father’s will. We struggle to keep God in the center of our lives and continually turn to pursue our own will and our own way. Jesus calls us in John 5 to follow His example, saying to us, “Faith is spelled R-I-S-K:

  • R – Rely on me completely (Stop trusting in your own wisdom and plans)
  • I – I am always working (Stop living like your work is more important than mine)
  • S – Step forward with me (Stop letting fear control you)
  • K – Keep it about me (Stop living a self-centered life)

4. It’s All About Relationship – January 26, 2020 – 1 John 4:7-21 – Jason Harms, Pastoral Resident

God’s highest desire is to have a love relationship with you. Why do we need a love relationship with God? 1) God’s love defines real love; 2) God’s love removes our sin; 3) God’s love transforms our relationships; 4) God’s love overcomes our fears. God wants your highest desire to be a love relationship with Him!

5. In or Out – February 2, 2020 – John 8:21-36

Jesus forces a decision. People are either for him or against him. There is no middle ground. John 8 shows us three signs of a true follower of Jesus: 1) you know how far from God you used to be (Deceived, Enslaved, Antagonistic, Doomed); 2) you have made a clear commitment to Christ (Turned from your sin, Trusting in Jesus, you are being Transformed by Him) and; 3) you have a living relationship with Jesus (you Hear and Obey Him every day; you Persevere and Experience understanding and freedom).

7. God Confirms His Will – February 16, 2020 – John 6:1-15

The feeding of the 5,000 miracle illustrates how God confirms His will in our lives. 1) God takes the initiative through His Word; 2) God directs us as we seek Him in prayer; 3) God clarifies His will through wise counselors and 4) God calls us to align our desires with His. Don’t seek a sign, seek the Son – He is the bread of life!

8. Actions Reveal Beliefs – February 23, 2020 – John 11:1-7,17-27,39-45

John 11 demonstrates four of Jesus core convictions: 1) God’s glory is ultimate, not human health; 2) God’s plan is best, not human plans; 3) God’s love is constant, even in our pain; 4) God’s power is supreme, even over death.

9. Total Surrender – March 1, 2020 – John 13:1-15

When Jesus washes His disciples’ feet in John 13 He shows the full extent of His humble, sacrificial service – the same kind of service He calls us to as His followers. Will we surrender completely to Jesus as He did to the Father’s will? Jesus gave everything for us, so we must give everything for Him. 1) He became fully human so you could become a child of God; 2) He was covered in sin to cleanse you from sin; 3) He served you sacrificially so you could serve others.

10. The Test of Love – March 8, 2020 – John 14:15-24 – Jason Harms

God expects Christians to obey and equips us to obey.

11. United in Christ – March 15, 2020 – John 17:1-26

(The message begins at 28:10)

In His longest recorded prayer (John 17) Jesus prays for His church to be unified, mentioning four gifts He has given us so that we can be one: 1) His love to connect us; 2) His name to protect us; 3) His word to perfect us and; 4) His glory to reflect from us.

12. On a Mission – March 22, 2020 – John 20:19-31

(The message begins at 16:45)

After rising from the dead Jesus appeared to his disciples and gave them clear marching orders. Jesus came to accomplish salvation. We must go to announce salvation in Jesus: 1) necessity – we must go; 2) authority – we can go; 3) urgency – they must hear!

13. Restored – March 29, 2020 – John 21:1-17

(The sermon begins at 14:22)

John’s gospel concludes with the restoration of Peter after his failure in denying Jesus three times. We see four steps in how Jesus restores us when we fail: 1) He helps us see Him; 2) He shows us His power and love; 3) He calls us back to Himself and; 4) He sends us into ministry.

14. The King of Peace – April 5, 2020 – John 12:1-16

(The sermon begins at 20:12)

On this Palm Sunday we remember the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, as a sign of peace. Jesus alone can give us peace because: 1) He is the sufficient sacrifice; 2) He is the defeater of death; 3) He is the King who saves and; 4) He is the King of all people. In these times of great fear and uncertainty, come to Jesus to find peace!

15. The King of Kings – April 12, 2020 – John 20:1-18

(The sermon begins at 21:18)

The resurrection changes everything. On Sunday morning Mary and the other disciples were still in the dark, confused, depressed and running around aimlessly. But when they met the Risen Christ He transformed their confusion into clarity, their despair into delight and their scrambling into service. He will do the same for us today!
