Get to know what our church is all about as we walk through our baseball diamond visual. The first question is whether you are a committed follower of Jesus or just a fan. The four bases give us a clear pathway to follow to grow toward full devotion to Christ: 1) love God, 2) grow in Christ; 3) serve the church and 4) reach the world.

1. Get in the Game – Mark 8:27-38 – Sept. 9, 2018

Mark 8 is the center and turning point of his gospel account. Here we see four questions for the would-be follower of Jesus: 1) Who is Jesus? 2) Why did he come? 3) What is your response? 4) Where is your hope? Are we just enthusiastic admirers who cheer for Jesus or are we truly followers of Jesus, devoted wholeheartedly to Him and His mission?

2. Love God – John 4:10-26 – Sept. 16, 2018

First base for us at Oakwood is to Love God. Our first priority as a church is to gather worshipers so we can encourage and challenge one another to Love the Lord with all we are. John 4 shows Jesus’ interaction with a Samaritan woman, calling her (and us) to “worship in spirit and in truth.” We love God best when we enjoy Him most.

3. Grow in Christ – Hebrews 10:19-25 – September 23, 2018

Believers make progress toward maturity in Christ. In order to grow, we need brothers and sisters beside us to stir us up, help us believe the gospel and serve the Lord along with us. Christianity is a team sport – lone warriors fall, one by one – together we can stand firm and move forward!

4. Serve the Church – 1 Peter 4:7-11- September 30, 2018

1 Peter 4 challenges us to move from selfishness to service by remembering the Servant. Our culture says “it’s all about you!” The Bible reminds us it’s all about Jesus. Remembering that truth, and all Jesus has done for us, enables us to love and serve one another in the church.

5. Reach the World – Acts 1:1-8 – October 7, 2018

The “home run” for our discipleship pathway is sending out workers to reach the world with the Gospel. Acts 1:1-8 shows us three commitments for a life and a church on mission. We are called to watch out for distractions and deception, to wait on the power and leading of the Holy Spirit and to witness to the world about Jesus.
